Marathon runners

I was awaken by a loud rumbling noise outside my window at 6 a.m. (again) the morning of the 4th of July, this time I looked out the window and saw tons of people running past my window and down the street making a left at the street light. I had no idea what was going on but soon the papers pined to the back of their shirts clued me in. I watched for about 5 seconds and went back to sleep.

Later I wake up to see the hot air balloons flouting over campus. This time there were fewer balloons but it was still amazing. I actually knew the people that were flying in the REMAX red, white and blue balloon. It was the second balloon to appear in the sky. After I watched the last of them disappear I went back to sleep.

About two hours later I was once again woken up by a super loud annoying sounds. This time a helicopter flying about four blocks away was recording the Freedom parade that was going on; that I could not sleep through so I got out of bed and watched the parade on t.v. while I was enjoying a nice bowl of cereal. Utahans love to celebrate their independence and in a couple of weeks they celebrate their pioneer heritage and that means more fireworks.

For the last two or three years I have spent Independence day relaxing at the beach and since Utah is quite far from a beach (after taking geology 101 I can tell you that it is a rain shadow desert) so this year I played sand volleyball and then went swimming afterwards I had no choice but to pretend that I spent the day at the beach…

I watched the fireworks from the balcony of my apartment. There was a big show in the school’s stadium and I got to see the same fireworks from the comfort of my own home. It felt like it was my own private fireworks show. The interesting part (for lack of a better word) was that it was Saturday July 2nd when they had the fireworks show. Utah is just weird I guess.

Today I had quizzes in both my classes. I am so glad that I was able to draw everything that the mitochondria is good for and how proteins are synthesized and the movement of different proteins through the cell. As for Spanish, well, I am just glad I can speak without making most of the mistakes that native speakers make. Five weeks left for summer term to be over…….

6:30 am

I woke up at 6:30 this morning, two hours before my alarm was supposed to go off. I tried going back to sleep but just ended up tossing for half and hour so I decided to get out of be and walk around to get sleepy again. When I jumped out of bed I looked out the opened window and I thought I was in a dream or something. From my bedroom window I can see the southeastern part of campus and this morning when I looked out the window there were about 20 hot air balloons floating over the campus. It was so beautiful and surreal like a dream. Or like the part in an alien movie when the main character sees the alien space ship for the first time. I was so excited I have never seen real hot air balloons in person. They are doing it three days as part of the 4th of July celebration things so I am going to try to get up tomorrow to see it again.
